and hysteria shaped a nation.

Other past & ongoing projects:

BECOMING NATASHA
Becoming Natasha is our most widely recognized production to date. American Theater Magazine heralded the piece as "harrowing" with a "ripped-from-the-headlines relevance of TV's Law and Order". Becoming Natasha was created over a year and a half of extensive research and is based on the book, The Natashas: Inside the Global Sex Trade by Victor Malarek. This company-created piece presents the stories of three victims of human trafficking - women and girls who have been smuggled across international borders and tricked or forced into a life of sexual slavery. These stories are contrasted by the voices of "Johns" and the men and women who make the choice to become traffickers. The brutality of the traffickers, the economic and cultural influences behind this industry and the psychological pain and afterlife of victims are just a few of the themes of this provocative work-in-progress.

As Becoming Natasha pursues educational touring and development, the company has been thrilled to find critical acclaim for the work locally and internationally. With funding from the New York Contemporary Arts Foundation, it was presented as a work-in -progress at the 2005 International Theatre Methods Festival in Latvia. Locally, Becoming Natasha was selected to be produced at the New York Six Figures Artists of Tomorrow Festival 2005 (New York Magazines "pick of the festival"), and to open a week of Amnesty International human rights events, No One Signs Up To Be A Slave at HERE Arts Space in New York. Other performances include HERE Arts Center in association with Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, and George Washington University. The show was featured in Eve Ensler's V-Day UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS Grassroots Coalition, June 2006. The play was presented at the American Theater Company in Chicago in association with Prostitution Research and Education, July 2006, and will perform in Toronto in March 2007 in association with the Coalition Against Trafficking. Becoming Natasha has recently been invited to present at the United Nations Trafficking Conference (2006) and has been invited to perform in Slovenia in collaboration with FAIR Fund, as part of the Natasha campaign. Becoming Natasha is featured in the April (2006) issue of American Theatre Magazine.

The Importance of Marrying Wells
A not so classic retelling of The Importance of Being Earnest. Set between blue-state Manhattan and blue-blood Connecticut, it was presented as part of the New York Fringe Festival.

Breaking the Silence
A staged reading of Migdalia Cruz's award winning play Telling Tales was followed by a panel discussion on the future of diversity on the stages of New York. The event was produced in collaboration with Columbia University's School of Performing Arts and the Actors' Equity Association. Panelists included Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Margo Jefferson, Eduardo Machado, Migdalia Cruz, Karin Coonrod, and Rosemarie Tischler.

The IP Performance Party
IP put out a call to writers to answer the questions: "How do you perceive who you are and what is expected of you by society in relation to your background and American culture. What does it mean to be an American in today's global society?" Nancy Savoca (If These Walls Could Talk), Steven Belber (Tape, Match), Trista Baldwin and Israel Horovitz (Line) were just a few of the well-known writers to team up with emerging writers in answering these questions.

A Penny in Time: The Trials of Jacob Macalby
A play about love in the afterlife. Performed at the Metropolitan Playhouse, Trials is a fun-loving new work by Glen Santacroce and Matthew Mariani.

The IP Reading Series
The Isadora Productions Reading Series takes place once a month at a local restaurant. The Reading Series gives writers a chance to hear their work read in any stage of development. The Readings have featured over 50 creative writers including: Oscar Nominee Jeffrey O'Connor, Trista Baldwin, Poet/Slam Artists Yvonne O. Etaghene and writer and regular contributor to NPR's (NPR) The Next Big Thing, Mary Purdy. The IP Reading Series has been described as "a breath of fresh air for artists" and "proof that reading in NYC doesn't have to get ugly". If you are interested in submitting your work for the Reading Series, please email: submissions@isadoraproductions.org
